It is odd to receive a verbal offer as this can only happen in a very small company which has little or no laid down process.
And you can't very well agree to an offer you do not know the details of. I am however curious if this offer was just handed to you or if you went through an interview. What happens when you get a verbal job offer, you verbally accept over, request confirmation of the offer in writing to formalize things, then hear nothing back from the employer?

A verbal offer is flimsy proof, as is your verbal consent. For one thing, the verbal offer you received is probably missing many of the terms that a normal employment offer and a normal employment contract would contain. Getting a job offer is exciting, but nothing is guaranteed until you arrive your first day and receive the bathroom code and a key. If nothing in writing, then you should assume that it is a no go.
